Question of the Month (haha): YALSA Top Ten

The Young Adult Library Services Association tallied up about 8,000 votes for the best book teens read in 2008. Here are the top ten:

1. Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling
3. Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
4. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
5. Maximum Ride: Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports by James Patterson
6. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
7. The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray
8. Extras by Scott Westerfeld
9. Before I Die by Jenny Downham
10. Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson

My personal favorite is City of Bones at #6. I've read #'s 1,2,4,6,7,8.

Which ones have you read? What is your favorite? Any recommendations?

13 enjoyed the bouquet.:

Good question Alison!

I've read four of the ten: 1, 6, 7, 8. My favorites are in that order too.

I really want to check out some of these other books.

What did you think of Vampire Academy?

1,2,6,7,8.

HP and the Deathly Hollows is my fave on this list, followed by COB, then Eclipse.

I think a great YA book is 'Looking for Alaska.' Very well written and is likened to Catcher in the Rye.

I've only read 1 and 2 haha. I think they are so different that I can't choose, it just depends if I'm on a HP or Twilight kick at the time.

I agree about "Looking for Alaska," Ryah. It is a really great book!

I also really liked "The Hunger Games." It was that book Stephanie Meyer suggested on her website. I highly recommend it! I couldn't put it down.

And I still need to read COB, but unfortunately I have to read "All the President's Men" for my journalism class. It's really not that bad...

1
4
6
8 (well, I haven't read Extras, but I read the other three)

I need to spruce up my list!

I really want to read the Laurie Halse Anderson one.

I think "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" should be on the list. I'll have to think about how many more I'd put on there.

Eclipse is my fave, followed veryveryclosely by COB. <3

I just bought the third Blue Bloods and will read that next. Although I need to read the fourth in the House of Night series still...

Great call on looking at YALSA, Alison!

I thought you would appreciate that, Erin! I haven't read the absolute whatnot part time indian business, but I did expect it to be on the list.

To answer Kari's question, I did like Vampire Academy books. They are a totally different world than most of the vamp books we read. I don't totally remember, but I liked them. But would have put them closer to the bottom.

And that Alaska book was amazing.

I have other books I would mention now but my bookshelf is in absolute disarray and I don't feel like pouringthrough it. Maybe I will photo it sometime. Ri-diculous.

That is the hardest question I have ever heard. I've read 1,2,7&8 and they are amongst my favorite books ever. They're all so differentt that they are really hard to compare, I think Eclipse is my favorite to re-read because it fills me with happy-sappy feelings but I think The Sweet Far Thing was the best written. I have never loved a book so much that ended so sadly, the end of that book had every feeling that you could imagine pulled into one. Honestly amazing. Then I've always got the HP freak inside of me saying it's trechery not to pick that...

I've only read 1,2,6 &8. I of course loved Eclipse, but my original love was HP. I have to say that COB, though, is my new love.

I'm starting to feel guilty ab out not choosing HP. That was a really good book. But it seems like such a distant memory to me.

I just got out sorcerer's stone and am going to start HP over again!

(Erin, care to join me???)

1, 3, 5 & 8. my favorite would probably be... either Eclipse or Maximum Ride. If it had been "The Final Warning" from the Maximum Ride series, it would have defanitly been Eclipse.

I would recommend... the Maximum ride series.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid was funny but it took me half a day to read. Extras was the second best book it it's series, if not the best, so that would be my second recommendation seeing as all of you have already read Eclipse.
