Is this series any good?? let me know, it sounds intresting.:)

Grimm, I have to say, its one of my favorite series. And its YA, so I don't think it would be inappropriate for you guys to read either. here is a link to the website for the series

Jes said...

i'm finished!
does anyone else feel like there will be more to come?

alison said...

I actually did have that thought, Jes, but I wouldnt' want another Clary story. I thought it ended perfectly for her and Jace. I wouldn't mind if she focused on some of the other characters and Clary was on the sidelines though.

What did you guys like/dislike??

I really just loved how everyone was so talkative and sharing their feelings, etc. Isabelle/Clary, Alec/Magnus, Simon/CLary, JACE/CLARY
oh, I loved it. It was awesome.

I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and it took me over an hour to fall back asleep because I was replaying the bedroom scene, the end scene, the wayland estate scene... I love Jace. He turned sweet when he realized he had nothing else to lose!

I finished part 1 last night.. still got lots more to read today!! But I haven't been able to resist reading ahead at people's comments on the book, so I'm over the whole "spoiler alert" thing! haha

I feel like I want to read this slowly.. like I'm going to be way sad when it ends. I just love all these characters. CC has done an amazing job! I feel like she doesn't get the recognition she deserves, but then again I would hate to see this series be blown up the same way Twilight was. It kind of takes away from it, ya know?!

Ok... must do MORE reading!!! hehe

alison said...

I can't read slowly. At least not the first time. I'm always too excited to see what happens. I usually have to read a book a second time to take in all the details--I plan on reading this one again when I go on vaca next week.

stop spoiling yourself!!! Its so good! savor it ;)

Ginger @ GReads! said...

Haha! I can't help it!! I'm like that little kid who has to sneak at all the presents before Christmas morning... I just can't stand not knowing!

Kari said...

I'm done!

It was so so so good. Holy crap. I do think there will be more to come.

I liked that there were some sacrifices. I thought Clary was the perfect heroine. And Jace, oh lordy, Jace is perfection.

Ginger @ GReads! said...

ok, I'm about to sound really retarded.. but I am about to pull my eyes out! I want to DISCUSS!! but I am at work.

Anyone use AIM? or have Gmail chat?! If so, add me:

aim - Ginger00JRT (those are zeros)
gmail - gingerp14@gmail.com

Kari said...

What part are you at? I was out and about all morning, just got back.

Ginger @ GReads! said...

I keep getting interrupted at work! Stupid job, haha.

Right now I am at the part where they all just met in the Hall of Accords. Luke & Malachi are fighting back & forth about if the Nephilim need the Downworlder's help. Clary just took Magnus aside to give him the book and Sebastian just showed up. I have a few questions about that boy!!!

Kari said...

Ohhhhhhhhh!! You're getting to a good part! Tell people who are bothering you at work to shove it! You have an important project you need to concentrate on.

Ginger @ GReads! said...

aren't they ALL good parts?! haha

Is Isabella dead??????

alison said...

omg Ginger! cut it out! You will find out soon enough ;) And it won't take too long to see more about sebastian nastiness either!

And yeah, they are all good parts. I can't think of a part that I thought was bad. I reread some of my favorite scenes today. but I'm so sleepy... contemplating a nap...

Kari said...

True. It is all good. Some parts are just really, gloriously good.

Ryah said...

Hey Ginger, I invited you to chat on gmail, if you're interested. :) At least I think I did...

Ryah said...

Ok, now I did.

Ginger @ GReads! said...

Yup, you sure did.
Do you see me?!

Ginger @ GReads! said...

eeeeeeek, look what CC just posted in her google groups when someone asked some "unanswered questions" at the end of CoG...

"Would you rather have me answer all those questions now, or would you rather there was the possibility of a sequel or spin-off series? You choose! :)"

SEQUEL!!SPIN-OFF!! I don't care, just something!!

alison said...

I would love a spin off! Like I said before, I'm satisfied with how this ended but that doesn't mean that I am done with the characters yet.

alison said...

Jes! where are you?? we want to hear what you thought of the book! ryah said something about how you and jace went off into your happy place and you won't be back for a while???

although I think I completely misinterpreted her...

Jes said...

I'm here!
I'm trying to figure out how to get into the google groups thing- Ginger?

Something I have been wondering was, who was that women at then end that Clary recognized with Magnus- it's Tessa (who is the main character from the new series that comes out in 2010, it's a prequel that happens in victorian england...very intgeresting)

Jes said...

I loved the book-

i really enjoyed all the charcacters, but found myself annoyed with Clary through the first half. but I think it was more the fact that I new what was going to happen in the book- just not how it would go down. i wanted them all to figure out who Sebastian was quicker, oh well- that's my impatience.

I loved that clary's first reaction to her mother was real- the anger was good, and surprising to read. I wasn't expecting her to burst out like that, that was good.

I really hope that CC writes more of Simon's story, I think there was alot of good lead-up and question to where his life/existance is heading from here on out.

Something that has also bothered me is this- if the Ligtwoods were in the Clave with Jace's real parents, why did they never recognize his star birthmark if it was part of that families history and lineage, it was right there on his shoulder...?

Ginger @ GReads! said...

Jes, here is the link to her Google Group:

http://groups.google.com/group/Mortal_Instruments

You can ask her ANY question just about, and she'll answer them! She's pretty good about responding daily on there.

I have NOT finished the book yet! I know, smack me over the head... but my eyes were getting sooooo sleepy last night. I was afraid if I kept reading I'd miss parts and then have to re-read them. So anyway.. I WILL finish it today! I'm at the part where Clary is standing infront of the Clave explaining her "special" abilities.

heatheryruth said...

Ok! I got the book for my B-day! Yippee! I've actually been reading what you guys wrote cuz I'm TOTALLY like ginger and by the time I finish the discussing will be all over!! ;( FYI! The things you guys have posted don't really spoil much for me!! I just makes me want to read it MORE! so good job! I'm excited to KNOW what you guys are all referring to! So much to get done before my daughter's B-day this weekend...when all I want to do is sit around and read....

Ginger @ GReads! said...

I was so into the book.. the part about Jocelyn telling Clary the truth about her past & Jace's past.. and then my boss called me in to do pay roll! sheesh! Don't these people know how important finishing this book is?!!! I mean.. come on.. no one needs to get paid :) hehe

heatheryruth said...

I know right Ginger! My kids don't need to be fed today right? ;)

Kari said...

You two are cheaters! CHEATERS!

Ok, I probably would have done the same thing. I avoided the spoilers for Breaking Dawn but only because the rest of the SVC peer-pressured me. I'm the girl who opens her Christmas presents and re-wraps them before anyone finds out!

Good call about the Lightwoods, Jes.

alison said...

I don't know if the lightwoods would have thought about the scar or known about it. ?

Buuut... I thought I remembered Clary trying to show Jace a scar on her shoulder and he wasn't paying attention and she felt really stupid about it. Am I wrong here? I thought she also had a star shaped scar. Maybe it was just a random scar. I don't remember.

Ginger @ GReads! said...

did anyone get a little annoyed towards the end?! I'm finding it a bit hard to finish now. I'm like.. COME ON! GET ON WITH IT! there's too much talk, and not enough action. Freaking stop Valentine, save the world, and Jace & Clary need to hook it up!

:)

Ginger @ GReads! said...

I FINISHED!!!!!!!! only took me the entire work day! sheesh! I kept getting interrupted at the most crucial parts too. I must say, the very end when Clary is at the party with all her "friends" was my favorite part! I just loved the conversation back & forth between everyone.. from the talk about a man doesn't drink anything pink, to wearing a glittery head band! All of it was awesome, and made me smile :)

Questions......
-what was the deal with Raphael at the end? giving Clary that look?
-why did CC throw in the bit with the Sealie Queen? what was the importance of that?

ok I probably have more questions, but I can't think of them right now! I'm basking the thought of Clary & Jace living happily ever after :)

Kari said...

Yay, I'm so glad you finished! Now I don't have to worry about ruining it for you.

I'm so so happy for Clary and Jace.

I was thinking about the Queen this morning. Maybe it was to show the readers that Clary won't be a bad future leader and be swayed? Maybe it was to set up for the next series?

Corinne said...

I re-read the first two books and just finished City of Glass. It was very good. I thought a well told story and was pleasantly surprised. I know some of the major plot lines were foreshadowed and we maybe knew what would most likely happen, but it didn't diminish the details. I really was surprised at some of the little details. I'm happy with the story and love Jace and Clary! Woo hoo!

Ginger @ GReads! said...

I didn't know where else to post this! But I wanted to know if any of y'all heard anything about the book "If I Stay" ???

check it out here: http://lushbudgetproduction.blogspot.com/2009/04/next-twilight.html

heatheryruth said...

ok...I know I'm WAAAY behind...but I FINALLY finished! Like Corinne I wanted to reread the first 2, so it took me longer than I had planned!

It was SOOO good! I hope CC plans on doing spin off tales!

I was happy with how it all ended! (Someone earlier posted something about the star scars I think Clary has one cuz she has also been "touched" by an angel which is while the Herondale's have one!)

Am I the only one that was happy for Alec and Magnus!? I thought their story line was a nice touch!

I understand if all of you are past discussing...just wanted to say I finished and how much I enjoyed it!

I look forward to her next series!! YAY!

Ginger @ GReads! said...

I don't think I could ever get tired discussing this book! It was so good :)

I liked the Alec/Magnus relationship as well. I'm happy to hear we'll learn more about Magnus's character (the early years) in her next series, Infernal Devices.

heatheryruth said...

Yes I'm also excited to read more about him!! Ok they say that the main character in the next series is in this one! I must have TOTALLY missed her! Where was Tessa in the Mortal Instruments series?

Ginger @ GReads! said...

At the very end when everyone is at the "party"... Magnus is talking to her, and Clary sees them. Clary makes a reference to her looking "familar" but doesn't know where from. Then Tessa leaves.... they never say what her & Magnus were talking about.

heatheryruth said...

ok, I remember the scene! Didn't know the had mentioned her name! I wonder if we'll find out why she's "familiar"? Or did we find that out already and I missed it?

Ginger @ GReads! said...

No, CC never mentioned why.

Corinne said...

And, Heather, Tessa's name was never mentioned outright. It's those who are "in the know" and are checking out on the forums that CC is on that Magnus' friend is Named Tessa and who the prequels are based on. I thought I was crazy when Jes called her by name like I had missed it, but her name is not in the book.

I will definitely be picking up that series when it comes out.

Jes said...

i've got a theory that magnus and tessa are time traveling between the stories (between mortal instmnts and infernal devices).
If you reread that scene, magnus is dressed as a "victorian gentleman"(pg 525). I think we are going to find that the book of white has a big part of the new series in some way. That's why Magnus wants it so . In the scene were clary hands him the book she notes that he has a look in his eyes (pg 257).

Ginger @ GReads! said...

Ya know Jes, I think that is a VERY good theory. I didn't even think about why Magnus was wearing "victorian style clothing". Hmmm... perhaps once he got the Book of White he was able to go back in time, told Tessa there was something he needed her to see, then brought her to the future to see Clary and what she was capable of doing??!

I found this interview that Cassandra Clare did about CoG, and the rest of the trilogy. I thought it was worth passing along:

http://www.yareads.com/author-interview-with-cassandra-clare/author-interviews/1054#comments

Check out this "imaginary casting list" she made of her characters:

heatheryruth said...

Cool Ginger! that was fun! Thanks for that!!

Ginger @ GReads! said...

what a forever long post! haha
I keep finding new City of Glass/Cassandra Clare stuff that I want to share with you all...

CC answered some questions about CoG that I found to be rather interesting.

You can read it here: http://cassandraclare.livejournal.com/30367.html#cutid1

Notice the part about her "outline to continue Simon's story"... what do y'all think about that??!! I thought it was a bit contradictory when she said she refused to write anymore on these characters (ie. Jace & Clary) yet she's planning to incorporate them in Simon's story.

I'm late...but

LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEE lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove. LOVE.

alison said...

yay! did you finish? tell us your thoughts!

Erin said...

OK. I finished late last night (or late for me, anyway), so I have to re-read the epilogue to really get my thoughts straight. But after reading your comments:

I loved loved loved the book. It was such a great ending. I still felt bad about Max, though, and I wanted to see part of Jace and Clary as a couple and who Simon ends up with, etc. I love Magnus and Alec! And Luke and Jocelyn.

I also thought Clary had a star-shaped scar, Alison. Is that b/c they both have the angel blood?

I want to see Simon with his sexy marks. I am glad Jace is Jace Lightwood now (since Maryse gave him the name Jace) but I would have been OK with Jace Herondale, too. Ummm...I wondered about Raphael, too. And maybe the Seelie Queen was just brought in at the end to illustrate Clary's contentedness and strength to resist the temptation? And I do think that was Tessa at the end. And Magnus must time-travel. That thing you posted, Ginger, said something about machines, so I'm thinking there's a time machine.

I guess I don't have anything really original to bring up. I probably laughed the hardest when the scene broke after Jocelyn clearned things up and Simon was like, "So, even though you and Jace aren't related, you've still kissed your brother?"

And I loved when Magnus wanted Alec to wear the sparkly headband and they referenced Xanadu. lol!

I really need to go back and re-read the whole series. I lent my CoB and CoA to my sister (since she's on vacation she wanted to re-read them...and btw - she's engaged!!!) but I have another copy of CoA at school that I've been re-reading since I refused to bring CoG in there (I'd ignore the students, and they'd bug me to borrow it, etc). But I want to read it start to finish - there's so much I know I missed.

LOVED it. So much.
