Clockwork Angel has been released. Since this site has been dedicated to following the Mortal Instruments series and Cassandra Clare, it is only fitting we chat about the newest installment in her collection. Give us your thoughts about Clockwork Angel. Some discussion points:

The music behind Clockwork Angel

Cassandra Clare has shared her music playlist for The Clockwork Angel. Check out the list below, along with CC's response as to why she chose that song.

1.) "Jesus & Mary Chain" - Head On

This particular song reminds me of Will, especially the lines:

"I'm taking myself to the dirty part of town
Where all my troubles can be found"

given his midnight wanderings through the bad neighborhoods of London, it seemed to fit.

2.) "The Drugs Don't Work" - The Verve

This one makes me think of Jem, for clear reasons for those who have read the book. And also about the scene with Will and Jem in the carriage when Will is thinking about what would happen to him if Jem died.

"Now the drugs don't work
They just make you worse
But I know I'll see your face again
'Cause baby, if heaven calls, I'm coming, too
Just like you said, you leave my life, I'm better off dead"

3.) "I'm A Vampire" - Future Bible Heroes

This one can't help but make me think of Camille.

"The sun will never touch me
I abhor its filthy light
I am the mistress of the damned
And of the children of the night
I have all the love I need
It is your blood I crave
I am the bitch goddess from beyond your grave."

4.) "The One I Love" - Greg Laswell

Will again.

"but i should probably say that i'm unsure why i'm running

running away from the one i love"

5.) "Alive Alone" - The Chemical Brothers

I listened to this while I was writing about Tessa in the Dark House, when she thinks "If no one cared about you at all, did it matter if you were alive or not?":

"And I'm alive/And I'm alone/And I never wanted to be either of those things."

6.) "London, 1888" - Momus

"It's London 1888
And I have learned the game of chess
I have a club, it's on the Strand
I'm a dishonourable man
And Tokyo is far away
The English wear a poker face
The latest craze is called 'Croquet'
I am a stranger here"

This song is about a Japanese nobleman out of his element in Victorian London — it reminded me a little of Jem, though Jem is Chinese, being out of his element when he first arrived in the city; it also reminds me of another character, someone very well-traveled, who is British but doesn't really think of Britain as home, talking about his sense of disconection and amorality despite all his money, the decadent life he can afford, and his "Club," of course.

7.) "This is the Thing" - Fink

Another song that reminds me of Will and the core dilemma that makes him behave as he does.

"And the things that keep us apart
Keep me alive
And the things that keep me alive
Keep me alone"

A few Clockwork Angel teasers...

While browsing Mundie Moms (a fan site for all things Cassandra Clare) I discovered a few teasers taken from Clockwork Angel. I thought I'd post them for you all to see:

Jem shook his head. "I don't think so. Perhaps you are the sort who would sacrifice yourself on the altar of principle, but I doubt it. Most of us do things for reasons that are more purely personal. For love, or for hate."

"London isn't horrible," Jem said equably. "You simply have to get to know it. You must come with me out into London someday. I can show you the parts of it that are beautiful-that I love."

"Singing the praises of our fair city?" a light voice inquired. Tessa whirled, and saw Will, leaning against the frame of the doorway. The light from the corridor behind him outlined his damp-looking hair with gold. The hem of his dark overcoat and his black boots were edged with mud, as if he had just come from outdoors, and his cheeks were flushed. He was bareheaded as always. "We treat you well here, don't we James? I doubt I'd have that kind of luck in Shanghai. What do you call Brits there, again?"

"Hear that Tessa? I'm a foreign devil. So are you." Will unhitched himself from the doorway and sauntered into the room. He flung himself down onto the edge of the bed, unbuttoning his coat. It had a shoulder cap attached to it, very elegant, and lined in blue silk.

Clockwork Angel Book Blurb

I wanted to write a book blurb about Infernal Devices, Clockwork Angel, saving my review until closer to the release date, as I really love this book. This is truly a must have for all Cassandra Clare/Mortal Instruments fans. Clockwork Angel was exactly like I had hoped it would be and more.

I really enjoyed reading Clockwork Angel, and I was so engrossed with the book that I read it in two sittings. I loved learning more about the history of the Shadow Hunters and meeting some of the MI characters ancestors. Cassie's writing for ID is brilliant. I was captivated with the story from the get go. The characters are ones I really liked, and I enjoyed meeting Tessa, the books main character. What really draws me to Tessa is she so strong willed and she knows how to handle herself with Will (think Jace, only in the 1800's and you have Will).

Cassandra Clare's Q & A

The beloved Cassandra Clare, very well know for her famous Mortal Instruments Series, caused a commotion on twitter today when she tweeted: “Soo, anyone got questions about Clockwork Angel or City of Fallen Angels? I’m in a question-answery mood . . .”

She answered a lot of questions from fans, most of it about her next two books coming out: Clockwork Angel – book 1 of Infernal Devices and City of Fallen Angels (CoFA) – book 4 of Mortal Instruments.

New Clockwork Angel Excerpt!

Tessa was only halfway down the corridor when they caught up to her: Will and Jem, each walking on either side of her. "You didn’t honestly think we weren’t going to come along, did you?" Will asked, raising his hand and letting the witchlight flare up between his fingers, lighting the corridor to a daylight brightness. Charlotte hurrying along ahead of them, turned and frowned, but said nothing.

Hi! (this is Jes) I'm adding here more info on City of Fallen Angels...(atleast this was new to me) I found this snipet that goes more into detail about the plot:

City of Fallen Angels takes place after the events of City of Glass. It splits its focus between Jace and Clary and Clary’s best friend, Simon, and how he adjusts to life as a vampire, but it’s still an ensemble-cast story, and all the characters from the Mortal Instruments series appear in it: Jace, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus, Luke, Jocelyn, Maia, and many more. (It even helps to have read The Clockwork Angel before you read CoFA, because some of the characters from the ID series do show up in it. However, it isn’t required.) In City of Fallen Angels, someone’s killing the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle and leaving their bodies around New York City in a manner designed to provoke hostility between Downworlders and Shadowhunters. Internecine warfare among vampires is ripping the Downworld community apart, and only Simon — the Daylighter who everyone wants on their side — can decide the outcome; too bad he wants nothing to do with Downworld politics. Meanwhile Jace and Clary investigate a mystery that has deeply personal consequences for them — consequences that may strengthen their relationship, or rip it apart forever. Love, blood, betrayal and revenge: the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.
City of Fallen Angels is set to be released in March, 2011.

Clockwork Angel excerpt from Cassandra Clare

Tessa woke, gasping, the book sliding off her lap as she sat up. The dream was gone, but the music remained, high and haunting and sweet. She made her way to the door and peered out into the hallway.
The music was louder in the corridor. In fact, it was coming from the room across the hall. It was ajar slightly, and notes seemed to pour through the opening like water through the narrow neck of a vase.
As if in a dream, Tessa crossed the hall and put her hand gently to the door; it swung open under her touch. The room within was dark, lit only by moonlight — she saw that it was not unlike her own bedroom across the hall: the same large four-poster bed, the same dark heavy furniture. The curtains had been pulled back from one tall window and pale silver light poured into the room like a rain of needles. In the square patch of moonlight just before the window, someone was standing. A boy — he seemed too slight to be a grown man — with a violin propped against his shoulder: his cheek rested against it, and the bow sawed back and forth over the strings, wringing notes out of it.
His eyes were closed. “Will?” he said, without opening them or ceasing to play, “Will, is that you?”

New Clockwork Angel Excerpt!

The bathtub was an oval, claw-footed affair hidden behind a Japanese screen in a corner of the room. Sophie had filled it with hot water that was already beginning to cool; sliding behind the screen, Tessa undressed and lowered herself into the bath. The hot water came up to her shoulders, warming her chilled bones: for a moment she sat with her eyes closed, letting the heat relax her. It was then that she remembered the rest of what had happened last night — the attic, and Will.
