Vamp Diaries Episode 5 Chat & Question of the Week!

So- I got a little confused and thought that there was not a new episode this week, but there was! I just watched it and I am really captivated by this show. This week Elena is getting super close to figuring out what Stefan and Damon are, and it looks like next week Stephan tells her!

This week we saw a member of the Salvatore family die, unfortunately I saw this one comming. When someone tells you not to go down into a basement becuase a psycho vamp is being kept down there- um hello!? you DON'T go down there. I loved the moment when the old man recognized Stefan. The carwash was way too sterio-typical teen movie/tv scene. I don't know what school this day-in-age would allow such skimpy outfits to be worn during a carwash, same thing was on Glee recently too. I have to say that my very favorite thing about Vamp Diaries thus far is the fact that Stefan can do the angsty face without looking like he's constipated...which Edward has yet to pull of in the movies as far as I am concerned. (though I do still love Rob, he needs to take some pointers from Paul)

QOW: I'm curious to hear what people's responces are to the way that Damon attacks his prey- it definately is not the nice and neat puncture holes that we've previously become accustomed too. Do you like the viciousness of it or would you prefer a more graceful drink from the neck?

22 enjoyed the bouquet.:

Haha... and yes, Rob could definately take some pointers!

And my answer is I don't mind either way. The way Damon does it is more.. uh, as realistis as it gets with vampires. If you bit someone in the neck, it wouldn't be clean. It would be bleeding profusly. On the other hand, it's easier and cheaper to do the other one, with less blood.

I'm not sure if that's what your asking... but I hope I answered properly.

I can't say that I like the way Damon does it, but I think it is more appropriate. Definitely de-romanticizes the whole vampire thing. I mean, hello, they are blood suckers. It should be disgusting and terrifying. And not, um... a turn on, with lots of moaning as they seem to do in a lot of movies.

Lol. I wish I could watch these...

Yay for Vamp Diaries question of the week! hehe

It always scares the crap out of me when Damon attacks someone. I always find myself jumping a little bit, even when I suspect it coming (like last week.. umm hello Vickie?! some strange guy in the woods is asking you to come closer?? I would be running the other way!) but I agree with Alison, I think it brings a more realistic touch (or bite I should say? heh). If a creepy vamp was sucking the blood out of my life I would not be moaning.. I'd definitely be kicking & screaming & he'd have to be forceful to continue feeding.

and lol @ the car wash scene. I was thinking the SAME thing Jes! so typical.

I forgot about Vicki!! That part was pretty dumb- since she was the one who got attacked in the woods in the first epi...atleast it wasn't a steriotypical blonde this time around....though the show has one of theose too. Even though I do LOVE this show :)
Do you think Vicki is now dead this time around????

Ginger @ GReads! said...

I'm thinking either she died, or she's one of them now. We know too much about her character, it would seem silly to kill her off now. Plus that would leave Jeremy very, very sad and I'm kind of partial to that guy :)

Looks like on tonight's eps Elena finds out the truth, or atleast some of it? and what do you think the pocket watch has to do with??

alison said...

I was also thinking htey had made too much of her character to kill her off. Maybe she is one of them? Or survives to continue to perpetuate the vamp rumor?

Jes said...

I was thinking the same thing about her character- I can't believe it didn't dawn on me that she could be turned...do you think Damon would turn someone though...? Have they talked about turning yet in the show??

alison said...

i think they did jes because the blond girl was worried she would become a vamp. I think damon said she would have to drink his blood but i could be mistaken

Ginger @ GReads! said...

I remember them mentioning it... but they made it sound like it was a lengthy process, that it wasn't as "easy" as most vampire stories make it out to sound.

Or maybe I am getting confused with something else??!!! I am reading/watching WAY too many vampire stories/shows right now!! haha

i have the same problem ginger!

Ok, I totally have to sit down and watch the episodes of this show! It's just hard with 3 kids, I don't want em getting freaked out and scared! I wanna take part in all this fun discussing!

Ok. So this is in correlation to the last comment I made about this show is that we really don't know that much about what being a vampire in this world entails. If Damon and other vampires here only use humans because they need to feed or they love the taste of blood, I have no problem with the way that he takes it from another. Goodness knows I'm not always the most eloquent when I eat--especially when hungry. Of course, other vamp stories make it more about lust and desire and sexualize the experience and we haven't seen that to be the case here.

But I think you guys are right about Vicky. I doubt she is going to be dead, but I remember some process of turning humans to vamps--doesn't just come from sucking their blood.

Realistically this show only leads me to have more questions. What's the point of being a vampire? Does it benefit anyone to turn humans? How do you become a vampire and what is the history behind vamps in this story(are they nomads like twilight? is it a legacy thing? a large group or just a small curse for only a few unlucky souls?)? I never read the books, so I am in the dark....

Corinne -- did you watch last night's episode? Some of your questions were answered. They told a little bit more on the back story of Stefan & Damon. Also, we were right about Vicky :)

Ok so I'm up to ep. 5 so far. I Like this show although I agree with Corinne's comments about what are the bennies of being a vamp and so on! (I tried to NOT read the things relating to epi's I haven't seen yet!)

In answering the QOD, I guess the "savageness" of the biting is a happy medium between "sexy" eroctic biting (which I agree with Alison, what is sexy about that?) and then like the BLADE or UNDERWORLD trilogies where there is just an OVERLOAD of gore and so on! I don't think someone getting bit would be perfect little punctures and then no blood! so I guess how this show deals with it is more what I would imagine!
