Another one down!

Yay! We have all finished The Host!

26 enjoyed the bouquet.:

Yay! We can discuss now!! I thought it was awesome!

I agree with the fact about torn between 2 loves! SM must really like Love triangles!!

I hope she does Sequels in the future! There's more to the story for sure!!

I think I liked Wanderer better than Melanie! (*Blush*) Maybe I wanna be a "damsel in distress" cuz that is SOO not me!

I also Liked Ian...I think I like that he transformed during the book from being so against to being in love with a soul and watching that transformation happen!
I can't think of the other things that I wanted to chat about! I lent my Copy to my brother! ARG!! hehe!

OK, I was reading the Lexicon, and SM kind of answered my first question already.

From the Lexicon:

"2. On your website, you say that you are anti-human. What exactly does that mean?
She talks a little about how people have accused her of being anti-feminist, but the story of Bella and Edward would have been the same if the roles were reversed and Bella was the vampire. Same goes for the genders of the characters in The Host. She refers to herself as an equal opportunity oppressor. She says the humans in her stories tend to be weak, compared to the other characters she makes up. Stephenie says writing from the perspective of the alien (Wanderer) came naturally. "

Guess I am not as original as I thought...waa waaaa....(sad music)

Erin said...

But maybe it wasn't totally answered? B/c I feel like the humans were NOT weak in The Host...

heatheryruth said...

I agree! I felt the Humans weren't weak either! Especially as you find out at the end that there are MORE that we able to RESIST the souls than we were originally lead to believe!

Good Catch!

I can't have the conversation I want to over blog comments. I'm glad we've conquered The Host.

Jes said...

heather- I am so glad you are joining us on the blog! yay!

Kari said...

This is totally random, but I really like the name Petals Open to the Moon. It makes me want to do yoga.

Jes said...

Kari! that reminded me!
I was a bit upset that they chose such a tiny and week body for wanderer! I don't like that now she needs help just to carry a cot! I understand her needing a trusting innocent face, but come on!

Kari said...

Yeah, they did pick someone kinda meek for Wanderer. I am hoping she'll be able to buff up by the second book. I'm also hoping to see some hot alien-lovin' with Ian. ;)

Erin said...

Corinne - I agree. It is hard to have this conversation - I can't wait to discuss in person! I think I'm going to have to print off this string of comments so we can discuss all of it!

I love the yoga-y name Petals too, Kari! ;-)

And Jes and Heather, I hope she buffs up for the second book. But I was glad that she still had her "purpose" in helping the group despite her size and weakness.

Morning Ladies!

It was so funny I told you guys that I lent my Brother the book...he was like...ok are they gonna explain the weirdo names?! I agree Petals probably had one of the prettiest names!

Kari...I'm down with you on having some Ian lovin' in the next one! Sure would be nice to see that relationship develop more!!

I can see where you guys are coming from that Wanderer got a weak body! After having Mel it's hard to picture...but the reasoning makes sense! Also I think for Ian they wanted someone that RESEMBLED the Wanderer in Body to help remind him of the soul! (remember how he said she thought she was beautiful?!) And SM describes her and being "silvery" in looks! (does that make sense?)

Jes, I'm glad you are liking having me around and not thinking I'm butin' in! :) It's fun to have someone to discuss with!

Ok random thought...how do you get little pictures to show up with your comment?!

heatheryruth said...

Ok...I just realized my Comment about the Ian lovin' sounded VERY sick! Sorry about that Kari! hehe!!

Erin said...

I like the point about the body matching Wanda's silvery-ish-ness. Hmm. And did I mention I love Ian? ;-)

Do you have a blog through blogger.com, Heather? If so, than you can edit your profile to include a picture via your dashboard. If not...if you have a gmail account, I think you can add a pic to your profile there, too!

Erin said...

And the Ian comment was great! Bring on the alien lovin'!

Kari said...

Yeeeaaahhhh! I also want to see Jared / Mel's relationship. We got a sneak peek from her memories but I wonder how it will change after all they've been through?

alison said...

oh, heather, don't worry about the ian loving comment. we've said far worse things about jacob/bella/edward...

I would love to see some jared loving, though... don't care who is on the receiving end...

Erin said...

lol, Alison.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jared action either. Loved him too. Interesting question, though, Kari - I wonder, since it was mentioned at the end that Jared looked at Wanda from time to time how things might have changed for him and Mel.

Erin said...

And on a side note, this book, while not even close to the same smut level as Outlander or the like, was much more racy than the Twilight series. Tongues mentioned. Birth control discussion. Poor Jamie getting kicked out of rooms. Leg hitching!!! ;-)

heatheryruth said...

hehe! I could always handle a little more juice to the love scenes hehe! I'm wondering if the Love angle between Wanda and Jared will continue also! It seems they both still have feelings! (Is there jealously on all parts still?)

Ohh the next one could be SOOOO good!

I'd like more lovin' for all the main characters!! hehe! I mean come on! John Lennon said it best! All ya Need is Love..!

Corinne said...

This is my question. Do you think we will only hear from Wanderer now? I mean we got a lot of story/feelings from Mel. I just want to know if Stephanie will continue and dual voices.

Erin said...

Good question. Maybe the answer partially lies in the titles of the sequels? The Seeker and The Soul? Maybe since this one focused on Mel (The Host), The Seeker will be about Lacey (Ugh...I kind of hope not...but maybe she wouldn't be as annoying if we knew her better?) and The Soul more about Wanda?

I don't know. Again, good question...

Erin said...

Which brings me to another question...Corinne, you called her Wanderer, and without thinking, I called her Wanda. Is there a difference, do you think? Which name are the rest of you inclined to use?

I know she's Wanderer, but Wanda comes more easily to me (though I had the hardest time getting used to it at first...though that may have been due to making fun of the Time article...).

Jes said...

I am betting that she will ontinue to tell the story from both wanderer and mel.
But the titles do intrigue me, especially "the seeker"- and remember there are new characters now- maybe "the seeker" is the alien/human they meet with the new group...
oh- and Erin I like to use, Wanderer...I really detest the name Wanda.

Erin said...

I do like Wanderer better (I flinched the first time Jeb called her Wanda)...but Wanda is less complicated for me to pronounce, both out loud and in my head. I always get hung up on the "erer"...

:-) I really, really hope she makes this a trilogy.

Kari said...

I still am mad about the fact that the article called her Wanda. I just don't think its her name, no matter how hard it is to pronounce!
