What do you think it means...?

I don't know anything about chess, are the pieces telling us something?

15 enjoyed the bouquet.:

the red piece is a pawn right? ugh, I don't know what this means... but then again I don't think any of the covers have really meant anything, so why should this one?

Hmm, I think they mean something.

The apple is the forbidden fruit, like Edward.

The flower has a petal falling off, which I read in many places could symbolize Edward leaving, Bella falling apart, etc...

The broken ribbon could mean that Bella is torn on two, she loves both Edward and Jacob.

So I think it's a Queen and a pawn, right?

If I had to guess, I would say queen= volturi, red pawn =bella being a vampire and having to play their games and follow the rules. (being their pawn) or some similar combination of that same idea with different people being represented by the piececs.

pawn = weakest player... travels the farthest but gets killed and used easily.

queen = does whatever the fuck she wants. can do more than the king, playing wise.

It's definitely a queen/pawn, and I agree, Alison. I think it's Volturi/Bella. And at first I thought, why a queen? Aro is male, etc...but the queen is the most powerful piece (even over the king), and the pawn is the weakest. So it makes sense that way...

I can't wait to read the book!!! Is it August 2 yet?!?

At this point, I dont even really want to read the book anymore. If its going to be about volturi and turninng into a vampwhore, i'm not interested.

I think that SM will end it really well, no matter how it ends...I know the Volturi will be part of it, but I hope they don't take over the whole book. The Denali coven is also supposed to make appearances. And I still think Jacob will be a narrator.

Yeah, Alison, you have to read it to find out who Jacob's true love is. Maybe it's you?

I really like the cover and I can't wait to read and figure out what the pieces symbolize. I agree that it will have something to do with the Volturi. And Bella is for sure the pawn.

I don't think the Volturi will take over the whole book, and I think she won't turn into a vampire until the end of the book.

The cover is starting to grow on me, I didn't like it at all when I first saw it.

Erin said...

I hope she changes before the end...I want to know what her power is!!! But I have a feeling you're prob. right, Ryah.

The cover is growing on me. I really didn't like it at first, but when I think about it, I didn't really care about any of the other covers. I wasn't as obsessed when they came out (the all-encompassing obsession started after I read Eclipse, though I loved the books before that too).

I was just looking more at the cover...does anyone know a lot about chess? I used to play in 4th grade (it was our class' game of choice - our teacher taught us. we were nerds...) so I remember a little, but not much. Is the queen in position to take the pawn on the cover?

It doesn't seem like it to me. The fact that the pawn is out of the queen's reach could be symbolic...seems like the queen would have to move one forward (so it could move like a rook) or one to the left (so it could move straight forward) to capture the pawn. I'm prob. reading way too much into it, but it IS kind of an interesting idea, since the Volturi were unable to "reach" Bella with their powers previously...

Whaddaya think?

There would be a couple of moves in between any sort of contact with them.
The board is shown from the wrong angle, but basically, the queen can go in any direction it wants to, but only one direction per turn. The pawn can only go forward and kill diagonally

Erin said...

ohh...I didn't even recognize the tilted board. That makes sense.

So it's good to know the Volturi isn't in a kill position, anyway...if that's what our theory is.

Erin said...

and now I'm reading waaaaay too much into it...but I wonder if it's symbolic how the queen is on a black square and the pawn is on the white?

Probably not. I just like playing detective.

Wow! I'm gone for a few hours and I miss all the good discussions! I totally agree with your guys' theory of Volturi/Bella. The Queen would have to make MORE than one move in order to "kill" the Pawn. I think it might symbolize how the Pawn seems to stay one step ahead maybe? I'm not totally sure though! (However in Chess the "LIGHT" color always goes first!) So this could be taken 2 ways depending on Which color is moving!
