Questions of the Day

I have been reading some other YA Vampire novels, and they have me thinking about the turning process. In Twilight, SM, has the turning process to be one of intense pain. In these other novels I have read, the process turns out to be one of tranquility and a merging of the two souls involved in the process- where intense feelings are shared and such. My question today is this:

Do you think there will be any spiritual connection at all between Bella and Edwards souls DURING the turning process?

Why do you think SM has made the turning process painful, while other authors have opted to make it an almost sexual expirience?

7 enjoyed the bouquet.:

If Bella gets turned by Edward, I definitely think they will be connected if not just by the act of him turning her. She'll be his.

I think SM focuses on the sacrifice of becoming a vampire. It's a loss of all things "normal." Intense blood lust, loss of relationships, possibly loss of soul. I think SM connects these feelings through Edward (and maybe Rosalie's) perspective--becoming a vampire is serious, not necessarily sexy.

I also kind of think that in other books, people want to get bitten cause its so hot... SM isn't into premarital sex, so she probably wouldn't want to make being bitten be an analogy for sex.

I agree that it would connect Bella and Edward more if he turned her. She says something in the books about his venom running through her veins, etc, but I think it's also simply the act - he is CHOOSING to make her immortal. That says a lot.

I think SM makes it painful to emphasize the repercussions and permanence of the change. And the premarital sex thing, too - maybe her religion plays a part in that? Though, despite the innocence of it, it always surprised me that Edward continually stays the night with Bella...

Yes, I do think they wil be connected even more if he is the one to turn her.

As for the turning process being painful, it kind of makes sense biologically. Your body, esentially, is dying, venom is taking over your blood, you skin is becoming hard like stone, etc.

Ouch.

My question was more focused on the exact expirience of the turning process- how do you think SM will describe the moment of it happening? will they be able to read each other thoughts, etc???

Then my answer is no. I don't think there will be much more than pain for Bella while she is turning. I don't think that is how SM has any other vampire describe the turning process. They come in and out and then it's over. I don't think Bella will be any different.

I love everyones thoughts and since I'm so late in the day answering, I agree with the others! I think the only connection between the 2 regarding the change is that They'll 'belong' to each other! I don't think they'll be supernaturally connected.

As for the pain of the change I think SM makes it painful becuz she wants it to be something they really think about! If it was more sexual people would be turning left and right!
