SM Quilt of Support & Question of the Day

Here's the cyber quilt of support that was made for SM

My question for the day is this:
What do you think of all this "outreach" that has been going on for Stephanie? There's been petitions, quilts, etc...

12 enjoyed the bouquet.:

I think it is great to support authors and I love SM- but some of it seems a bit overboard- especially when she hasn't aknowledged any of it that I know of. Part of me thought, when I looked at the quilt, this is a bit juvenile... it just seems like people are treating her as a "little girl lost author"

I agree that it's overboard. Instead of feeling like supporting her, it feels more like the readers best not have a negative opinion.

I obviously support SM by buying her books, running this web site, going to meet her, etc. I also have a brain and don't like feeling like I can't fully express myself.

My feelings can best be summed up in this:

meh.

and also this:
SM most likely has millions of dollars. she probably is doing just fine rolling around in her wads of cash and isn't feeling too sorry for herself right now.

also, said quilt is embarrassingly small.

guess sm doesn't have many fans after all.

oh well, she still has the cash.

I thought that petition to EW telling them that there review of BD was wrong, and they don't know how good of a book it is, blah, blah, blah was a little farfetched.

Like Kari said, you can't go around and tell everybody they're wrong just because they don't like SM or her books.

She is not the first person in the history of the Internet to be hurt by it. Most of me is thinking, "get over it."

I think it is a nice gesture for her since she seems to be down right now. However, I also think she is being a bit of a baby about the part of MS being leaked. I mean, it happens. It happens to musicians and movie makers too, and I feel like she is too angry and bitter about it than she should be. I understand she is mad, but I think not finishing or working on MS is childish as well as a disservice to all of her loyal readers.

maggie, I think your comment was spot on! also, thanks for joining the coven!

Oh and also - the petition about EW's article is stupid. Just as SM has the right to write about whatever she wants, EW has their own opinion and can write whatever they want. I hate any sort of art censorship; it's just wrong.

I agree Ryah - just get over it already!!

Thanks Allison! :)

Although I want SM to finish MS, I do not feel compelled to make avatars, quilts, write angry letter to people who gave bad reviews or whatever. It isn't like things don't get leaked. It happens. Unfortunately you take a risk when you give anything away.

Agreed all around.

I mean, I understand that writing is a really personal thing and it would feel like a violation - like a robbery or something - to have this leaked. But really...after five published novels, not that it makes it right in any way, but I'm sure she somewhat expects spoilers here and there. BD was spoiled. People are just too interested in her work, and she can't see that as a bad thing. The fans and the interest have definitely given her a lot in life.

So, such is life. But I appreciate these people going to these efforts to make her feel good, if that's what she needs for motivation to finish MS. I know that sounds rude, since I'm not going to participate, but it's true. I am glad they're doing it, though I wish they didn't have to.
